Hello Old Friends, Please Help me save her!

    Hey Everyone,

Not sure if anyone remembers me, but i use to be very involved in the 3s scene until i didn't have time to keep my 91 tt running as a dd. Current update, interior is a mess with cracked plastics and the door needs to be repainted but it still runs and drive. Major issue currently is that i can't get her to pass smog, usually it takes me a couple tries but it has been sitting for a while.i drove it around a hand full of times in the past 3 months. when i leave it idling it is smoking heavy white smoke and i believe its the chrome ecu not being tuned correctly and dumping fuel. I've always have had a issue with the chrome ecu because i never updated the software when it came out and i don't have the tatrix cable. The check engine light comes on as well, but that is due to the ecu not being updated, that was a fix that came out a long time ago.

If any member can come help me get this running smoothly so i can start putting her back together and bring her back to life. I can drive it around if i get a smog paper for the day but i live in Martinez. Worst case anyone that are still working on our cars in the bay area i can send it to them to button everything up.

Thanks everyone, i miss this scene and want to get back in it.

Cool. Shoot me a PM. I'll try to fix it up and make sure it's working Friday night.

Spare ecu is beyond repair, but we could always do a quick swap.

I want to help but I don't know how I can help. I've no experience with Chrome.

Hey thanks for trying to repair it, I also have my factory ecu with me. I believe it had the capacitor leak for the reason why I got the chrome ecu. Would I be able to give you mine and see if you can fix it? its just sitting in my garage anyways.

Ya same here, I mainly bought it so I wouldn't have the leaky capacitor issue like the oem. it needs a tune for sure because I get a good amount of smoke during startup.

Anyone on here that is running the ecu?

Can you take a good high res picture of the board where the leaking occurred? I can give you an idea of whether or no I think it's possible.

Caps look to be replaced (and polarity looks ok), so it may be a chip issue or something else that got fried?

Bummer...i agree...those are replaced caps. Ok...so...back to other tests. I'm out of town for the next 4 weeks, but can come by at some point after that and we can try your ecu in my car and visa-versa to see what's up.
