 Zero power... need ideas
94rt tt convo 2nd gen engine 91 ecu+harness.
was out last night went to start my car up, it cranked for 1/2 a second. all lights and power to anything went out. I checked the logical fuses, terminals look ok. is there a relay or something that could cause these symptoms. I believe the starter is separate from the ecu, so it should at least crank if the ecu did go bad...
anyone have any ideas? give me a call if anyone thinks of anything. im about to head all the way to Arden.....
thanks ryan 530-575-9310

 Re: Zero power... need ideas
Start with the basics and double check or even physically remove/clean and reinstall the battery clamps just to make sure you have good contact at the terminals. JJ

 Re: Zero power... need ideas
I'm having the same problem too (I belong in Jersey Shore). I just swapped turbos and kept the battery on a charger when it was out of the car. I'm going to go buy some new terminals and some terminal cleaner. The weird thing was that when I tried to just start the car, smoke came from the ground by the rear turbo and from the terminals. Did a 12v get spliced into somewhere or is it because a positive and a negative got swithed?

My vote's battery cables/connections also... This same exact thing happens to my mustang rarely, I just disconnect the battery cable and re connect it, works fine...

 Re: Zero power... need ideas
do u have a turbo timer able to read the voltage off the battery? if not, get a voltmeter and put it on the battery to see if there's anything left on it.

 Re: Zero power... need ideas
In correlation with the battery, I have tried to start the car using my auto-start, and it cranked just like this. I looked at my battery terminals, and they looked fine. However, when I checked the connections by wiggling them to check for looseness, they felt tight. As soon as I pressed one of them down harder on the battery (the negative terminal if I remember correctly), the car started right up with the auto-start apparently still in effect. I guess the connections were just barely not tight enough.

 Re: Zero power... need ideas
winner winner chicken dinner..... so i thought i was embarrassed last night on a first date and my car not starting, I left my car down in Arden near the comedy club... Bought a starter on the way down, thinking of a possible seized solenoid... long story short, i installed a new battery and terminals. the negative grounds are two eyelets instead of a cable that the terminal would clamp down on. the terminal was painted, it build just enough corrosion to not make a connection. returning the starter at the parts store was more embarrassing then last night. Edvis, do what Joel suggested. there are only a couple systems that can cause this symptom. thanks for the replys, and Mike the Godfather for the direction to look early this morning. (Darwin you should change Mikes "saying" or whatever under his avatar to "THE GODFATHER" thanks again to you all. p.s. car is running smoother

So how did the date go? If she would have helped you fix the car, you should have just proposed right then and there...... If she knows DSMs, does she have a mother that's available for an old guy with kids (me)?
